About Us

Thistle Soaps is a small family business set in the rural heart of Strathmore near Glamis Castle, looking out onto the beautiful Angus Glens and not far from the cities of Dundee and Perth. We, Ann and David Thorpe, have run the business since 2002 and together we produce and package many kilos of our beautiful soap every year.

Soapmaking for us started as a hobby in about 2000 when Ann, a trained and qualified aromatherapist, suffered a wrist injury and was no longer able to massage. She has put her knowledge of essential oils, herbs and vegetable oils to good use in ensuring that, wherever possible, the oils and blends we use are therapeutically beneficial, pleasing to the nose and soft and gentle for the skin.

A hobby turned into a business and somewhat to our surprise we started growing! We've now been making soaps commercially since 2002, and over the intervening years we've become increasingly passionate in ensuring that we only use natural ingredients for our soaps and that these are sourced as much as possible from sustainable sources. Our Shea Butter, for example, is wild grown in Ghana, where it is produced by a village womens' co-operative, and the Palm Oil we use is Columbian and is certified as organic. We now have a thriving trade business, with shops all over the UK (and some abroad) selling our soaps, but we still try to remain close to our roots, attending regular farmers markets and craft fairs in our local area where we enjoy meeting the people who buy and use our soap and hearing their feedback and suggestions.

We do everything ourselves, from the formulation of our recipes and the careful sourcing of our ingredients, through the making, cutting and curing of the soaps, to the designing and printing of the labels and the final packaging of the soaps.

We genuinely believe that we now produce soaps of the highest quality in an ethical way. We make our soaps with love - and we think it shows. We hope that you will agree.
